Analytics and lead measurement
Know which visits lead to a contact action.
GA4 and lead measurement help you understand what happens after someone reaches your website. Visits, contact actions and paying customers are different outcomes. Reliable interpretation starts with clear definitions and a checked measurement setup.
Define what you want to measure
Choose the website actions that matter to your business before interpreting a dashboard. Connecting an account does not automatically install every tracking event on the site.
- Website visits
- Visits show that someone used the website. They do not establish whether the visitor was suitable or intended to buy.
- Contact actions
- Forms, telephone clicks, WhatsApp, chatbot and quote actions can be measured when their measurement route is enabled. Define which event counts for each route. A click does not prove that a call happened or a form was completed.
- Confirmed customers
- A won assignment or sale needs confirmation from your own sales process. Do not treat every tracked contact action as a paying customer.
Check the connection and the website
Select the right GA4 property and check the measurement code, consent behaviour and event setup on the website. Some work may need your developer. A valid account connection is only one part of the setup.
- Property and code
- Make sure the selected property and installed measurement code belong to the website you are assessing.
- Consent
- Respect the visitor’s choices. Some visits and actions may not be measurable because consent is withheld or the browser blocks tracking.
- Event checks
- Distinguish test activity from real enquiries and prevent duplicate events. Check that a confirmation event represents the action it claims to measure.
Compare like with like
Use consistent periods, definitions and filters. Search Console clicks and Analytics visits are different measurements. A change in reported totals can reflect tracking changes as well as visitor behaviour.
- The comparison period
- Record the baseline and when the website or tracking changed. Do not attribute earlier results to a later edit.
- Missing data
- Account for consent choices, browser restrictions and processing delays when interpreting the report. An unmeasured action is not necessarily an action that never happened.
- Business relevance
- Record whether the requested service, location and timing fit your business. Do not count a phone click and the subsequent form as two customers. If suitable visits rarely lead to contact, review the offer, evidence and enquiry route alongside the search queries.

Questions and answers
Does connecting GA4 install all tracking?
No. The website code, consent setup and relevant events must also be configured and checked. Agree any developer work separately.
Is a contact-button click a lead?
It is a contact intention. Whether it counts as a lead depends on your definition and the evidence that the enquiry was completed. Keep clicks and successful submissions separate.
Why do GA4 and Search Console show different totals?
They measure different events and have different processing and limitations. Compare each source using its own definitions.
Do I need GA4 to publish articles?
No. Publication and measurement are separate connections. Your publishing permissions and website integration determine whether an article can go live.
Is every enquiry measured?
No. Your setup, connections, consent and technical limitations determine which signals can be recorded.
Can I assess results without Analytics?
You can review the available Google and AI measurements and keep your own record of enquiries. Be explicit about which outcomes are measured and which are not.
