AI visibility guides and terminology

Understand the evidence behind AI visibility.

Use the practical guides, public research and definitions below to interpret a measurement and decide what your team should investigate next.

Practical guides

Explore a competitor finding, compare markets or follow a proposal through to implementation. Each guide uses explicitly fictional examples to explain the workflow.

Research and further reading

Read the full English research report, the guide to being mentioned in ChatGPT and the explanation of GEO. A report describes the measured question set and period; it does not represent every possible AI answer.

Terms used in AMI

These definitions explain what a metric describes and what it does not establish.

Buyer question
A question someone asks when choosing a provider, without inserting a brand name. For example: “Which business phone provider suits a company with 50 employees?”
Mention
Your brand appears in an AI answer. AMI records the occurrence for the measured question and system, and its order where applicable.
Share of measured answers
The proportion of relevant measured answers mentioning a brand. It may also be called share of answer or visibility. It is not market share or revenue share.
Source
A website cited or otherwise available as supporting evidence in an answer. AMI groups sources such as comparison sites, guides, media, communities and providers. An unexposed source cannot be established just by guessing.
Citation
An explicit reference to a source in an AI answer. Citation availability differs by system and response.
Brand fact
A fact you record about the business, such as a price or location. AMI checks answer claims against those recorded facts; the input itself still needs to be accurate.
Sentiment
The tone of a mention, such as positive, neutral or cautious, with the relevant excerpt available as evidence.
Buying stage
Whether the question concerns initial research, comparison or a choice of provider.
Google AI Overviews
AI-generated summaries shown within Google search results.
Google AI Mode
Google’s separate conversational AI search experience. It is a different measurement from AI Overviews.
GEO
Generative engine optimisation: work intended to make content and businesses easier to understand and reference in AI answers. A mention or recommendation is not guaranteed.
MCP
Model Context Protocol, through which compatible AI assistants use tools. The dedicated Klusio AMI server reads stored measurements; broader Klusio write tools require separate permissions.
