Internal links

Help visitors find the pages that matter.

Your priority service may be hard to discover within your own website. Klusio maps internal links and compares that structure with your business priorities, then suggests relevant places to connect the pages.

Context matters as well as the number of links

A link in a relevant explanation helps a reader understand why the destination is useful. Menu and footer links serve navigation; contextual links can explain a more specific relationship between two pages.

Illustrative example: an accountancy firm’s old case study receives 80 links from article text, while its priority payroll page receives eight. That difference is worth inspecting alongside the pages’ purpose and Google measurements. It does not mean Google assigns importance simply by counting those links.

What Klusio measures

The scheduled website scan builds a map from the pages it can read. Coverage matters: a missing or inaccessible page can affect the picture.

Incoming internal links
Links from page text are distinguished from repeated navigation and footer links. A repeated anchor and destination across much of the site helps identify template links.
Click depth
How many link steps a visitor would need from the homepage to reach a page.
Orphan pages
Pages for which no incoming internal link was found in the scanned set. They may still be discoverable through a sitemap or external link; this finding is not a Google judgement of their quality.
Business priorities versus the link structure
Compare chosen topics, main service pages and pages receiving Google clicks with the contextual links they receive.

A proposal includes the source pages

An important page with fewer than three contextual incoming links can be flagged for investigation. That is a Klusio prioritisation rule, not a Google requirement. The proposal should name related pages that could usefully link to it and explain where the link belongs.

Klusio can add a supported link in articles it manages after your approval. For other website pages, you receive the proposed source and destination so you or your developer can implement it. Do not add unrelated links simply to reach a count.

Connect external references to a useful website structure

An external reference often points to your homepage or one article. Relevant internal links help visitors and crawlers continue to related information, including an appropriate service page.

That is why site structure and external outreach belong in the same investigation. It does not mean every external mention will benefit every linked page or produce a measurable ranking change.

Where to find it in Klusio

The link map appears in the technical SEO area: “SEO → Technische SEO → Linkkaart”. Inspect the map, pages without observed links and the suggested next step. Topic views show contextual links to the main page, while Decisions can include “Meer interne links naar …” with the proposed source pages.

Questions and answers

How often is my website scanned?

The recurring audit is normally scheduled every seven days, with a default limit of 1,000 pages per check. Settings and accessibility can affect coverage. You can request a new scan after a change where that action is available.

Do menu links count?

They are part of the overall link map. The prioritisation of contextual opportunities distinguishes them from links in the page text, since site-wide navigation is repeated across many pages.

Does Klusio add the links itself?

In supported articles that Klusio manages, it can do so after approval. Other pages need implementation through the appropriate supported route or by you or your developer. The proposal identifies the source pages.
